Background music changes how fast a video feels, how urgent a moment reads, and how long a viewer's attention holds through a stretch that would otherwise feel flat. Get it wrong and it can quietly work against the exact retention you're trying to build.

Music does more than set mood — it manages attention

Tempo, energy, and rhythmic density in a music bed influence how a viewer perceives pacing independent of the actual cut rate. A section with a moderate cut rate can feel fast and urgent under an energetic track, or feel sluggish under something slow and ambient — same edit, different perceived pace. That's a powerful lever, because it means you can adjust how a stretch of video *feels* without re-cutting a single frame, just by changing what's underneath it.
